Upstate South Carolina is full of hidden gems and iconic backdrops that are so beautiful, they practically photograph themselves. From sweeping mountain views to quiet gardens, waterfalls, and charming small towns, this area offers incredible variety within a short drive. Whether you’re planning family photos, engagements, maternity sessions, or branding shoots, these are some of the best photoshoot locations in Upstate SC.
Falls Park
Couldn't help but start the blog off with this classic park; it's popular for a reason! Falls Park combines lush landscaping, stone paths, river views, and the iconic Liberty Bridge. It offers multiple looks in one location, making it ideal for families, couples, and lifestyle sessions.
Legacy Park
If you’re looking for a versatile outdoor space with a mix of open field and large lush trees, Legacy Park is a fantastic choice! This 20-acre public park is one of my favorite places to catch the beautiful sunset light. This is my go-to spot for fall photos!
Table Rock Park Visitor Center
Table Rock State Park is one of Upstate South Carolina’s most scenic outdoor destinations — and the Visitor Center area is an especially great spot for photoshoots without needing to hike deep into the park. The Visitor Center sits near Lake Oolenoy with Table Rock Mountain towering behind it, creating stunning natural backdrops that feel both peaceful and dramatic.
Milliken Arboretum
If you’re looking for a spacious outdoor setting that blends gardens, ponds, open fields, and mature trees, Milliken Arboretum makes a beautifully natural location for photoshoots! This large, nationally recognized arboretum sits on the grounds of Milliken & Company’s corporate campus and is open to the public to enjoy.
Holston Creek Park
Holston Creek Park is a great under-the-radar location for outdoor photoshoots if you’re looking for wide open spaces, natural scenery, and a relaxed, family-friendly vibe just outside of the bigger urban parks!
Creek-side
Some of my favorite creeks to photograph families are private-owned ones, so if you or a friend has a creek, it's definitely worth considering! Creeks are ideal for those sessions in the heat of summer.
Your Yard!
Don’t overlook home — your own yard can be the perfect location. Sometimes the best photos happen right at home. A backyard, garden, or porch can be a relaxed, personal setting where kids and parents feel comfortable, letting real moments and connection shine. No need for a fancy location — your own yard can tell your family’s story beautifully.
